ITAB Lighting UK’s Lowlyte luminaires save Guiseley vehicle workshop 60% in energy costs.

Farnell Land Rover in Guiseley, West Yorkshire is reaping the energy saving and light quality benefits of using ITAB Lighting's versatile Lowlyte LED luminaires. The recently completed multi-million redevelopment of the dealership is part of the Land Rover Arch showroom concept. This includes the new workshop facilities, bristling with state-of-the-art servicing technology.

The installation uses a total of 42 Lowlytes, each with an output of 16,000 lumens, to deliver the 700 lux required for fine work and inspection. Lowlyte benefits from both the latest high efficiency LEDs and advanced optical design, achieving a luminaire efficacy that exceeds 150 LL/CW (luminaire lumens per circuit watt). The result is a significant 60% reduction in energy consumption, compared with the previous installation.

The challenging brief, from North Tyneside consulting engineer Humphrey M&E, also demanded excellent vertical illumination and uniformity for the new workshop. This is essential in an area that has both perimeter work benches and vehicles at varying heights on automotive lifts. To achieve this Lowlyte was equipped with precision 60° beam angle optics that evenly illuminate the entire area.

To meet budgetary requirements, the number of lighting points was minimised. This can often create glare issues in environments requiring a high level of illumination, particularly where conventional circular high bay type luminaires are deployed. Lowlyte overcomes these issues thanks to its large, even, light emitting surface. Multiple low power LEDs carefully control the luminous intensity, or brightness of the luminaire. This delivers superior visual comfort, controlling contrast and glare within the workshop.

Installation of the luminaires was simple and fast. Lowlyte is equipped with BESA fixing holes as standard. This made fixing to the newly installed trunking straightforward, saving time and effort for Leeds based electrical contractor Harrison Electrical. Lowlyte is also suitable for both surface mounting and suspension without any adaptation, further emphasising its versatility. Future maintenance will also be easy, thanks to Lowlyte's enclosed design. The sleek profile can be quickly and easily wiped clean.
