John Bell & Croyden

John Bell & Croyden, part of the Celesio Group, can trace its history to 1798 when John Bell opened the original pharmacy on Oxford Street, London. Founder John Bell and his son Jacob played key roles in the founding of Pharmacy as a profession in the United Kingdom. Jacob Bell founded the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain in 1841 – now the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain – and was originator and first editor of The Pharmaceutical Journal.

Given the company’s prestigious history, ITAB was proud to be part of the collaborative team involved in the refurbishment of the 100 year old, Royal Warrant store on Wigmore Street. The ambitious blueprint started in March 2015 with London-based design studio ‘Twelve’ and Director of C/O, Jochen Lauscher, partnering on the conceptual design of the project.

ITAB UK companies Prolight and Interiors, together with Swedish companies Pharmacy, Nassjo and Sintek within the ITAB Group, undertook all the technical design work and manufacture of the shop fitting equipment. ITAB Lighting supplied bespoke brass 1m diameter pendant light fittings, together with Zylinder COB 3000 track lights, Orion II recessed twin gimbal downlights, LDLP LED downlights and bespoke “Sombrairo” track mounted pendants which have now been incorporated into the standard range.

"I am delighted to present the re-launch store concept of our John Bell & Croyden pharmacy”, said Cormac Tobin, Managing Director at Celesio UK. “… I am proud to say that together with our partners we have succeeded in visualising the two-hundred-year tradition and the amazing expertise of this pharmacy in a modern and high-quality way."

The project was crowned New Store of the Year 2017 at the recent Retail Week Awards.
